Quick Answer

For most people, the best place to check a credit score depends on what they need:

  • Best dedicated credit-monitoring app: OneScore
  • Best official source for your CIBIL score/report: TransUnion CIBIL
  • Best if you already use Google Pay: Google Pay
  • Best for comparing all four Indian credit bureaus: Paisabazaar
  • Best official Experian source: Experian India
  • Best official CRIF source: CRIF High Mark
  • Best web-first alternative for an Experian score: BankBazaar
  • Best way to verify every bureau at least annually: check CIBIL, Experian, CRIF High Mark and Equifax directly

A useful rule: use a convenient app for routine monitoring, but use the relevant credit bureau's own portal when you need the full report, want to verify an error, or need to raise a dispute.

A "CIBIL Score" specifically means a score from TransUnion CIBIL. Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark generate their own credit scores. Scores can differ because bureaus use their own data and scoring models.

Quick Picks

OneScore — best dedicated credit-monitoring app

Best for: People who want a clean app focused specifically on credit reports, score changes and personalised credit-health insights.

OneScore can show credit-report information, repayment history and reasons behind score changes. Its current website highlights Experian and CIBIL, while its current FAQ states that the Experian score can be fetched free and CIBIL access is available through OneScore Plus Membership.

Why choose it

  • Dedicated credit-monitoring experience
  • Experian score and report insights
  • Credit-health explanations and Score Planner
  • No need to use a broader banking or shopping app just to view credit data

Important trade-off Do not assume every bureau score is permanently free. OneScore's current public pages are not fully consistent about CIBIL access, so check the current in-app terms before subscribing.

Who should use it: Someone who wants frequent credit-health tracking and explanations.

Who should skip it: Someone who only wants the official annual report directly from the bureau.

TransUnion CIBIL — best official source for your CIBIL score and report

Best for: Anyone who specifically needs their official TransUnion CIBIL score, detailed CIBIL report, enquiry history or dispute tools.

CIBIL provides one free CIBIL Score and Report per calendar year. The report includes the latest score, repayment history, personal information, lender enquiries and active/inactive credit accounts.

CIBIL also offers paid monitoring/subscription features for people who want more frequent access, trended score views and alerts.

Why choose it

  • Direct source of the CIBIL score
  • Full report details
  • Official dispute route
  • Best place to investigate a suspicious CIBIL enquiry or incorrect account

Trade-off The free full CIBIL report is limited to once per calendar year; more frequent official CIBIL monitoring can involve a paid plan.

Who should use it: Anyone preparing for a major loan, checking report accuracy or resolving a CIBIL error.

Who should skip it: Someone who only wants a quick recurring score inside an app they already use.

Google Pay — best if you already use Google Pay

Best for: Existing Google Pay users who want a quick CIBIL check without installing another dedicated app.

Google Pay's credit-report feature is powered by TransUnion CIBIL. Google says users can update the report monthly, receive recommendations, and check it without affecting their credit score.

Why choose it

  • Convenient for existing Google Pay users
  • Powered by TransUnion CIBIL
  • Monthly report refresh
  • Checking your own score does not lower it

Trade-off It is a convenience layer, not the bureau itself. For detailed disputes or official CIBIL support, go to CIBIL.

Who should use it: Someone who wants simple recurring CIBIL monitoring.

Who should skip it: Someone comparing scores across multiple bureaus.

Paisabazaar — best for comparing all four credit bureaus

Best for: Users who want to see and compare scores from CIBIL, Experian, CRIF High Mark and Equifax in one place.

Paisabazaar currently advertises access to all four bureaus with monthly credit-score tracking. That makes it unusually useful for seeing whether bureau scores differ.

Why choose it

  • Four-bureau coverage
  • Monthly tracking
  • Web and app access
  • Useful for spotting differences between bureau records

Important trade-off Paisabazaar is also a marketplace for loans and credit cards and may use your profile to show personalised offers. Read the consent and communication preferences before proceeding.

Who should use it: Someone who wants broad multi-bureau visibility.

Who should skip it: Someone who wants a credit-only experience with minimal product marketing.

Experian India — best official Experian source

Best for: Anyone who specifically wants an Experian score/report, official Experian monitoring or Experian dispute support.

Experian's consumer portal provides credit reports and scores, report monitoring and dispute tools. Its website currently advertises a paid CreditExpert monitoring option with alerts, score analysis and related tools.

Important note on free access Experian's current public pages are not completely consistent: its consumer FAQ says users can access an unlimited number of free credit reports during the year, while a current terms document states the consumer report is free once per calendar year. Treat the free-refresh frequency as update-sensitive and check the live terms when using it.

Why choose it

  • Direct bureau source
  • Official Experian dispute process
  • Credit-monitoring tools and alerts
  • Useful if a lender has checked Experian specifically

Who should use it: Anyone checking or correcting their Experian file.

CRIF High Mark — best official source for your CRIF score

Best for: People who want to inspect their CRIF High Mark credit file directly.

CRIF provides a free annual credit report and offers paid plans for more frequent score/report access, score history and analysis.

Why choose it

  • Direct CRIF bureau report
  • Free full annual report
  • Official report and dispute channels
  • Paid monitoring available if needed

Trade-off If your main goal is routine CIBIL tracking, a CIBIL-powered service may be more directly relevant.

Who should use it: Someone checking all bureau files or resolving a CRIF-specific issue.

BankBazaar — best web-first alternative for an Experian score

Best for: Users who want a fast, browser-based Experian credit-score check.

BankBazaar's credit-score page is currently powered by Experian and advertises free score access. It can also provide score updates through its app.

Why choose it

  • Simple web flow
  • Experian-powered score
  • No need to start with a bureau subscription

Trade-off BankBazaar is a financial-products marketplace. The credit-score experience can be connected with personalised loan and credit-card offers.

Who should use it: Someone who prefers a website and wants a quick Experian score.

Who should skip it: Someone who wants the official bureau relationship or no product marketplace.

Do Not Ignore Equifax

India has four RBI-recognised credit information companies:

  1. TransUnion CIBIL
  2. Experian
  3. Equifax
  4. CRIF High Mark

RBI rules entitle an individual whose credit history is available with a bureau to one free full credit report, including the credit score, from each CIC once in a calendar year.

Even if your everyday tracker uses CIBIL or Experian, checking Equifax periodically can reveal a discrepancy that is not visible elsewhere.

A Credit Score Is Not the Whole Report

Do not track only the three-digit score. Also check:

  • loans and credit cards listed in your name
  • repayment status and overdue amounts
  • credit limits and balances
  • closed accounts that still appear open
  • lender enquiries you do not recognise
  • incorrect personal information

A score can change because the underlying credit report changes. If something is wrong, the report is what you need to investigate.

Does Checking Your Own Credit Score Reduce It?

No. Checking your own score for personal monitoring is treated as a soft enquiry and does not reduce the score. A lender checking your report after you apply for credit is different and can appear as a credit enquiry.

How Fresh Is the Data?

RBI requires credit institutions to report borrower information to credit information companies at least fortnightly, using the 15th and the last day of the month as reference dates, effective from 1 January 2025. CICs are also required to ingest submitted data within the regulatory timeline.

That does not mean every app will show a new number every 15 days. App refresh rules, bureau processing and whether your underlying credit information actually changed can all affect what you see.

If You Find an Error

Use the bureau that contains the incorrect information to start the dispute process, and contact the lender that supplied the data when necessary.

RBI's compensation framework says a complainant can be entitled to ₹100 per calendar day if a qualifying credit-information correction complaint is not resolved within 30 calendar days, subject to the framework's conditions and exclusions.

How These Picks Were Chosen

This Guide is based on current information published by RBI, the four credit-bureau ecosystem, and official product/help pages as reviewed on 30 September 2026.

Selections consider:

  • which bureau supplies the score
  • free-access rules
  • refresh/monitoring frequency
  • availability of full reports
  • dispute usefulness
  • multi-bureau coverage
  • app versus web convenience
  • transparency around paid features and product marketing

This is an editorial comparison based on published information, not hands-on testing of every service.
