Use this table after understanding the full lessons. Each line is a recognition clue, not a substitute for all exceptions discussed above.

Exam clueCorrect conceptCaution
Raw or recorded valuesDataData is not limited to numbers
Useful interpreted/organized dataInformationQuality and context still matter
Organized data collectionDatabaseNot the same as the software managing it
Software for managing databasesDBMSDoes not guarantee perfect security by default
Relational database managerRDBMSRelational is one database model
Rows and columnsTableA relational table is not just a spreadsheet
One horizontal entryRow/record/tupleIdentifies an entry, not a field definition
One vertical propertyColumn/field/attributeHolds a property across rows
Unique chosen identifierPrimary keyNot NULL and not duplicated
Reference between related tablesForeign keyChild-side values can repeat
Key using multiple fieldsComposite keyMust be defined for the intended rows
Combining matching data in queriesJOINNot an automatic permanent file merge
Adding/removing schema objectsDDLCREATE, ALTER, DROP are examples
Modifying stored rowsDMLINSERT, UPDATE, DELETE
Reading recordsSELECTWHERE filters; ORDER BY sorts
Typical query countCOUNT(*)Counts rows rather than non-NULL values of one named column
Interactive cell formulasSpreadsheetMay connect to a database
Plain tabular text exchangeCSVDoes not retain workbook charts or DB constraints
Integrated analytical dataData warehouseNot a synonym for backup

Integrated enterprise processesERPNot a synonym for database

Ten high-priority distinctions

  1. Data vs information: recorded values versus their useful organization and interpretation.
  2. Database vs DBMS: stored collection versus managing software.
  3. Row vs column: one record versus one attribute.
  4. Primary vs foreign key: unique identifier versus reference to an eligible key.
  5. Relational link vs join: a designed relationship versus a query operation using it.
  6. SELECT vs UPDATE: read versus modify records.
  7. Spreadsheet vs DBMS: worksheet calculations versus controlled data-management structures and operations.
  8. OLTP vs OLAP: transactional operations versus analytical exploration.
  9. Data warehouse vs mining: prepare/integrate analytical data versus discover patterns.
  10. TPS vs MIS vs DSS: record daily events, summarize for management, and support less-routine decisions.

Module practice strategy

For each lesson, answer all 12 questions before reading the explanations. If a response is wrong, locate the nearby definition or worked example and write a one-sentence correction in your own words. Revisit the high-priority distinctions before a mixed-topic mock test. These questions are original and are not represented as verified previous-year exam items.
